The Stigma of The Handicapped with Fred Meyling

January 17, 2017
After suffering from two spinal cord injuries, Fred Meyling was confined to a wheelchair. This made it incredibly difficult for him to find a job due to the stigma of the handicapped. The stigma behind the handicap community was and is still largely in place in regards to employment and the handicapped applicant’s capabilities. Many employers did not believe in his abilities simply because of his wheelchair. This gave him a choice: to give up or to take matters into his own hands and learn to make money with his own self started small businesses. Fred Meyling chose the latter and was able to support himself as well as volunteer to inspire others. He started volunteering for different handicap communities in order to help alleviate some of these discriminatory circumstances.
